Three Colnes Walking Group

Saturday, 23 May 2026, starting 9.30am

We hope you will be able to join us for a longer walk in the Assington area this Saturday 23 May. We will start from the Barn Café/Tea Room on The Street in Assington (CO10 5LW) at 09:30 (note earlier time!)

The walk is about 6.9 miles. It includes parts of the recent shorter walk but drops down to St Stephen's Chapel where we will have a break to see the remaining tombs of the De Vere family and take in the views across the valley to the Bures Dragon.

This walk has everything, woodland, open fields, hills and valleys, lakes and streams, marshland and boardwalks. Be aware that there are a number of stiles and some steps, and a couple of steep hills. It is relatively dog friendly, but fields may contain livestock (sheep, cows and horses) and stiles may require the dog to pass under or through the rails, so maybe it is not so good for large dogs. The photographers in the group will have a field day with some incredible landscape opportunities as well as a variety of wildlife. Maybe we can add Tiger Hill Wood, another ancient woodland, as an alternative bluebell walk for next year!

Ray has reserved a table at The Barn for those that wish to stay for lunch.  The Barn menu includes tea and cakes, soup and a range of cooked food - see menus on their Facebook page, as well as daily specials on the blackboard. There is a large car park at The Barn and further parking at the Village Hall close by. Please email Ray to let him know you are interested in joining the walk, and whether you would like to stay for lunch. Alternatively, you may prefer to call, text or WhatApp on 07734450221. (If emailing, please use Rawood@me.com as the walkabout gmail account is currently unreliable),

If you need a lift or can offer one, or need more information please also let Ray know,,
